Aquila Basket Trento (known as Dolomiti Energia Trentino from 2014) is an Italian professional basketball team founded in 1995, following the merger between Dolomiti Sport B.C. Trento and Pallacanestro Villazzano. Those were two seventh tier Serie D local teams, whose chairmen were willing to reach higher divisions and attract the best local athletes. Dolomiti Energia Trentino played in minor divisions until the 2004/2005 season, when an important turn happened to come: the team managed to achieve the “double”, both winning Coppa Italia and obtaining promotion to Serie B2 (fourth Italian division).
In 2009, under the chairmanship of Giovanni Zobele, Aquila Basket secured the right to join the Serie A Dilettanti league and the coaching of the team was entrusted to Vincenzo Esposito, giant of Italian basketball and first Italian basketball player to join NBA, at his first experience as a basketball coach. In 2010, Maurizio Buscaglia was re-appointed as head coach, after that he had already coached the team for four years from 2003 to 2007. In the 2012/2013 season, Dolomiti Energia Trentino won the Coppa Italia Legadue and in the following season, secured the promotion to the Serie A (the highest Italian division), following the victory of both regular season and playoff.
